5″ Shrinking Disc and Backing Pad

5" Shrinking Disc & Backing Pad

5″ Shrinking Disc – Precision for Small Panels

The original smooth and safe-edge shrinking disc, now in a compact 5″ size.
Perfect for tight spaces and smaller surface areas where a 9″ disc won’t fit, this disc gives you precise control without sacrificing ProShaper quality.

Why Choose the 5″ Shrinking Disc?

  • Compact size – Designed for confined areas, motorcycle tanks, and small panels.
  • Not a substitute – Complements the 9″ disc, not a replacement.
  • Proven workshop tool – I use shrinking discs on every panel I make (aluminum and steel) to achieve filler-free, primer-ready finishes.
  • Durable build – Made from 16-gauge stainless steel for years of heavy use.

Mounting Details

Mounts with standard 7/8″ dia. (5/8 x 11 thread) autobody grinder flange nut.
For different thread or grinder stud sizes, adapt with a simple bushing or collar (easy to do, available worldwide).

Backing Pad & Plate

This backing pad and threaded plate are designed exclusively for the 5″ Shrinking Disc.
They ensure secure mounting and consistent performance.

FAQ

Can I use the 5″ disc instead of the 9″?
The 5″ and 9″ shrinking discs are designed for different jobs, so they work best as a pair rather than substitutes.

  • 9″ Shrinking Disc – Best for large, flat or gently curved panels such as hoods, doors, roof skins, and quarter panels. Its wider coverage lets you smooth stretched areas quickly and efficiently.
  • 5″ Shrinking Disc – Ideal for confined areas, detail work, and smaller parts like motorcycle tanks, fenders, patch panels, and tight curves where the 9″ disc cannot reach.

For professional results, most builders keep both sizes in their toolbox: the 9″ for speed and coverage, and the 5″ for precision and control in small spaces.

Will this fit my grinder?
The shrinking disc fits any grinder with a standard 7/8″ dia. (5/8 x 11 thread) flange nut. For others, just use an adapter bushing or collar.
